The United States spent $10,000,000 in February of 1904 to gain control of the Panama Canal. Construction started three months later in May of 1904.

The canal connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean and is 48 miles long. It took 10 years to complete the canal and it was opened in 1914.
