Amish Holidays

First of all, Amish use the same calendar as the rest of America. 12 months, 52 weeks, Monday, Tuesday, January, February etc.

Most of the Amish holidays are religious holidays. The religious holidays observed by the Amish include Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, and Whit Monday.

The Amish do not observe public holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Presidents Day and Veterans Day. However, they do observe Thanksgiving in pretty much the same way the rest of America does.

For those of you who are not familiar with all of the Bible's scriptures, Ascension Day comes from the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven, Pentecost comes from the descent of the Holy Spirit to the followers of Jesus Christ, and Whit Monday is the day after Pentecost.
