Where does God live?

Does God live in the light or in the dark?

In 1 Timothy 6:16, His dwelling is in the light.

1 Kings 8:12, The Lord's dwelling is in thick darkness.

What do you think? Why is The Bible talking about the light in one place and the darkness another place? Is it referring to literal light and darkness or does it symbolize something else?
