Most Amish people are bilingual. The Amish learn English in school. Although most Amish do not speak German, they do speak something called Pennsylvania German dialect, also known as Pennsylvania Dutch.
We have heard that some Amish do take the time to learn German, so they can read religious scriptures in German. Furthermore, most written communication among the Amish is in English.
