Above picture: The Rialto Bridge was one of the first bridges to span the Grand Canal in Venice allowing residents to access the Rialto Market. The structure was originally constructed of wood, but after it collapsed twice under the weight of residents watching boat races, it was replaced by a stone bridge in 1591.
