American Red Cross
American Red Cross in Portland, Oregon
Who would we call if there was a huge disaster in Portland? The Red Cross!
More than 80 years ago the Red Cross in Portland was built to help neighbors during World War I.
In 1978, a United Airlines plane crashed in a neighborhood east of Portland and Red Cross volunteers were there to help.
They’ve been doing the Red Cross for more than 90 years. Wow!
People donate blood and the Red Cross gives it to people who need it.
They also teach CPR training and other classes, such as Water Safety, First Aid and what to do in a disaster.
I think the Red Cross is a great place to have in Portland, because if it wasn’t there, what would we do in a disaster?
