John Tyler was the United States of America’s tenth president.

President John Tyler was born in Charles City County, Virginia on March 29, 1790 and grew up to become America’s tenth president.

He was a lawyer before he became President of the United States at age 51. His place of primary affiliation was Virginia. John Tyler became president on April 4, 1841 and left the office on March 4, 1845.

President John Tyler was a member of the Whig Party and he did not have a vice president. John Tyler's nicknames include His Accidency, Young Hickory, and Accidental President.

President Harrison died after 32 days in office, and Tyler took over the White House. He began to work against the party that got him elected and vetoed several of the party's proposals. Tyler was very aware that he would never be re-elected, and he founded a new party to accomplish his big project: annexation of the Republic of Texas. Before becoming vice president, he had been a Congressman for Virginia, Governor of Virginia and Senator for the state. After his term, he withdrew from politics.

President Taylor was future President Harry S. Truman grand-uncle.

President Taylor was one of eight presidents that never attended college. The others were President Washington, President Jackson, President Van Buren, President Fillmore, President Lincoln, President Johnson, and President Cleveland.

John Tyler was 71 years old when he died on January 18, 1862.
