The 26th Presidential election was held in 1888. The two major contenders were Benjamin Harrison from the Republican Party and Grover Cleveland from the Democratic Party.
Benjamin Harrison was the winner of the 1888 Presidential election with 233 electoral votes.
Grover Cleveland lost the 1888 Presidential election with 168 electoral votes.
Note that Cleveland did run again in 1892 and won the election like he also did in 1884.
Also interesting to note that although Grover Cleveland did win the popular vote, he lost the election to Benjamin Harrison because he got less electoral votes.
