How is licorice made?
Question: How is licorice made?
Like so many other types of candy, you may think that licorice is
made from sugar, syrup, coloring, and artificial flavors. Not so. Licorice
is actually made from the root of the Glycyrrhiza glabra.
To make licorice, you boil the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra, which
causes most of the water to evaporate, and you are left with
licorice. You can then add sugar if you want sweet licorice, or
salt if you want salty licorice.
PS. Licorice is also spelled Liquorice.
