Lola
Lola's Adventures Chapter 2

REPLY!

I of course, always want to be right. So I had to prove to mommy I was right this time (even if I wasn’t, which I was) so I had to think of a way. Then, it magically just popped right into my head! I could write letters to Ali in Hawaii, and see if she would reply!
I remember her telling me her address, when we were on the beach. Raspberry Lane. It is such a cool street name! Who wants a street name called Huffel Avenue? BORING. I suppose all of you said, not me, or No way, or I’m outa here. Well, I live on Huffel Avenue. I know, don’t you feel bad for me? Oh, whoops, I’m back on track. I wrote it on my typewriter, so it would be neat and pretty.
This is what I wrote on my first letter:

Dear Ali,

How are you? I miss you from Hawaii. Sorry about that ocean incident. I didn’t mean for you to get trapped in the ocean! It was all my fault. I’m very sorry, and hope you are being better. Let’s be pen pals! We can write back and fourth, without seeing each other! But I know, in person is a whole lot cooler. You are a great friend to have, even though we only played for like a half of an hour. Maybe you can visit Arizona sometime too! No, it doesn’t have an ocean, or stuff like that, but it is fun to visit me, really. I had my mommy spell check this. She doesn’t believe you’re real Ali! My mom saw this too. I am sorry I hurt you and hope you are healing.

Love,
Lola

I really was hoping my best friend Ali would get this and tell me she was better. I couldn’t wait for a reply!
A week later I was getting worried Ali WASN’T ok. She hadn’t written back yet, and I wondered when she would.
“Mommy!” I yelled. “You check the mail yet?”
“No honey, you go get it, k?” mommy answered.
I skipped off, hoping for a reply. I opened our mailbox to see an envelope. Had she written back? I pulled the note out of the mailbox, and looked at the address.

LOLA MCINTIRE
2316 SW HUFFEL AVENUE
Phoenix AZ 45623

I was amazed. Ali had written back!
“MOMMY!” I shrieked, zooming into the kitchen. “OH! HA HA ON YOU, YOU SAID ALI WOULDN’T WRITE BACK! SO HA HA HA!!!!!!” I SCREAMED.
“Oh, well, I just didn’t expect it, you DIDN”T go to Hawaii after all.”
I tore open the envelope, and read the letter. It read:

Dear Lola,

I’m very sorry, but I don’t know who you are. Did you do the right address? My name is Madison, and I’m 6. I’m sure you’re really nice and all, but what happened in the ocean? You pushed a girl named Ali in? And she almost drowned? Sure we can be pen pals. But are you sure you got the right address? This is Raspberry Lane. Is that what you meant? I’d be happy to be pen pals. How old are you? I’d want to visit Arizona sometime. Oh-I don’t live in Hawaii. I live in Alabama. So there’s no ocean. Did you go to Hawaii ever? I think this is all a big mistake. But write back soon!

Sincerely,
Madison

P.S. You can call me Maddie. ?
